A New Way of Living

by Linda Luke
(Hendersonville, NC)

I am a baby boomer who never thought I would have to rechart my course in midlife! Well....it is a challenge but it has brought unexpected happiness as well. The first thing I did was to stop dining out for lunch and dinner; no movies, etc. I have bought great movies on E-Bay; joined a paperback swap site, started walking in a local park, hosting pot-lucks instead of dinner parties and rediscovered the public library. Sabbath remains a delight! We have our best meal of the week on shabbat just like our ancestors did. Crockpots are a lifesaver for me; they save so much time!
I have one new habit: every time I am picking up some new item that is a "want" not a need I calculate to see how many minutes/hours I have to work to pay for it! This has really helped me to stop free for all spending. :)

Shalom,
Linda
